The Ameerally family has been personal friends of the Mazzola family for over 25 years and Suzanne Roberts Mazzola was also a BKS Mom as both Ella (5) and Matteo (7) attend the studio. The news of Suzanne Mazzola’s passing has affected many because of what a caring and giving person she was as well as the rest of the Mazzola/Roberts families.
The Mazzolas have donated food for our Spaghetti dinners the last few years. They have supported youth sports and local schools in the decades they have owned their restaurant. They have literally supported this community and we feel it our responsibility to return the favor. As a result, Broadway Kids Studio will hold a benefit concert at the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Center with 100% of the proceeds going to support Suzanne’s surviving family – her husband Joe Mazzola and their four children (Matteo, Ella, Luca, and newborn Owen).
The details of the events that led to Suzanne’s passing can be read below but we want this benefit concert to focus on Joe and these four kids. We want to help raise funds to support them in their time of need and hope that all of you reading this will come out for an entertaining evening that will benefit this family. Cost: $20/person
Tickets will be available (while supplies last) at Broadway Kids Studio starting Monday, February 23rd and can ONLY BE PURCHASED IN CASH. This concert will be general (open) seating on a first come, first serve basis. In addition, we will also have a donation box available for anyone who wants to make an extra donation or cannot attend but still wants to help.
We would like to first give a heartfelt thank you to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center, and Nova Southeastern University for their generosity in donating the venue to hold this concert. I would also like to thank all of the BKS Staff who will prepare and work this concert on their time and the talented BKS Students who will be performing.
Suzanne Story (as told by her Aunt Janet)…
On February 1, 2015, Suzanne was at her baby shower in preparation for her 4th child, Owen. When the baby shower was over, Suzanne left for the hospital to prep for a very risky C-section the next morning. We all said our goodbyes with smiling faces, never imagining it would be the last time we would see her.
Suzanne was diagnosed with a condition called Placenta Percreta that occurs when the placenta penetrates through the entire uterine wall and attaches to another organ such as the bladder. The primary concern for Suzanne following child birth was hemorrhaging while a team of 15 doctors attempted to detach the placenta.
Suzanne was given the option to take the baby very early in the pregnancy, but being the wonderful strong woman and mother that she was and understanding the personal risk, she chose to wait until 35 weeks when the baby would be strong enough to survive.
On February 2, 2015 our beautiful Suzanne passed away while in surgery but she gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy – Owen Gabriel Mazzola, born weighing 6lbs 2oz. Owen, meaning little warrior; Gabriel, meaning god is my strength.
Suzanne’s love for children led her to become a special needs teacher for the Broward County Public School system. Her husband Joe helps run the family restaurant. Suzanne leaves behind her husband of 9 years, Joe Mazzola, and four children: Matteo (7), Ella (5), Luca (2) and newborn baby boy, Owen.
As with many of us, we never think the worst will happen and don’t plan well enough for something like this. Suzanne’s four children and husband Joe need our support, as there isn’t any financial safety net. Please honor Suzanne by helping support her family in their time of need.
